Who We Are and Why We Have A Funny Name
Winged Dog Tile began making tile in 1992. We just celebrated 20 years of clay and outrageous electric bills.

Our partnership blends the skills and talents of two artists from two different disciplines. David Vargo is a professional sculptor/ceramist. His personal work incorporates dogs interacting in human environments and is in several major collections and museums. He also teaches ceramics and sculpture. Sandra Cosner is an art director designing print collateral for a variety of clients and non-profits as well as designing tile.

Together we’ve developed a stylized look for our tile using environmental images that reflect our appreciation of the wetlands and the natural elements that surround us.

The original Winged Dog was Lucy, our beloved Black Lab
who loved to leap. She was the model for our logo and all things dog-related. Lucy lived to the very ripe old age of 18.

Buddy and Ginger joined Lucy after we moved to Sacramento. Three big dogs pretty much created a dog circus around the studio/house.

The current Winged Dog is Mitchell...98 lbs. of play.
He is addicted to stuffed toys and home-made Frosty Paws.

All of our dogs have been rescues of one sort or another.
You may have noticed they are all pretty big...we never find
small dogs...or if we do, their owners claim them!
